The coast seems ever-present in Wirral, and West Kirby is one of towns that is built around its beautiful location at the north west tip of the peninsula. Perfect for a relaxing holiday by the sea, the town has plenty of activities for all ages. Take a walk around Marine Lake, it is is a popular venue for sailing and other water related events and is adjacent to West Kirby Sailing Club, which offers courses in sailing, windsurfing and canoeing, making it the ideal place to indulge your adventurous side.

Ashton Park is an attractive Victorian park not far from West Kirby town centre. Situated on a hill, the park was developed between 1899 and 1906 through the good will of Miss E M Ashton who loaned the land. Nowadays, locals and visitors flock here to relax and enjoy a stroll.

With incredible views out to the Welsh Hills across the Dee Estuary. This picturesque spot is home the perfect place to begin or finish your day in peace and tranquillity. The Marine Lake offers a gentle stroll but if you prefer a longer walk, carry on along the beach or Marine Promenade.

As you look out to the Dee Estuary, you will see Hilbre Island, and at low-tide, you can walk to the island and take in some of the incredible views and amazing wildlife that call the island home, from rare birdlife to Grey Seals. Be sure to read up on walking to the island before you go, check the tides, do wear appropriate footwear and be mindful that the island has no shops, toilets or drinking water.

Whether sailing or windsurfing is for you, the Marine Lake is where to head if you want to get active on the water. one of the most reliable and beautiful locations for water sports in the North West, the lake provides coastal wind strengths without needing to wait for the tide.

There are are a range of coffee shops and eateries for every taste, or take a picnic on the beach or in one of the gardens or parks. Bars and pubs are also a short walk.

If a long walk if what you are looking for, head for the Wirral way, it runs for miles and walkers and cyclists share the route.

A short distance away, if you are looking for a prestigious golf club, you'll find The Royal Liverpool Golf Club,  Hoylake.

The world renowned course is open to visitors and has played host to The Open Championship and Walker Cup. 

Thurstaston is also a short distance from West Kirby, and a popular destination in Wirral, and is very much part of the ‘coast and countryside’ theme that our peninsula has running through it. The beach is overlooked by one of the most beautiful parks you will come across, Wirral Country Park.
